WHERE TO GO IN THE SOLENT AREA
Where to go? Combine your sailing in the Solent with visits to great ports and exciting places. This wonderful sailing area is steeped in history, something for everyone.

COWES: just soak up the ambience of 'probably' the busiest yachting centre in the world, origin of the America's Cup. Watch one of the numerous Racing Regattas, stroll through the narrow cobbled streets - the pubs and restaurants are great here. Visit Osborne House, Queen Victoria's magnificent summer residence, open to the public and a short bus or taxi ride from East Cowes Marina.

PORTSMOUTH ROYAL DOCKYARD: go aboard the famous sailing ships of bygone days, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. Lord Nelson sailed from here in HMS Victory to win the battle of Trafalgar! The museums are excellent and will be enjoyed by all. Also home to the latest in UK warships, the Daring Class Type 45 Destroyers.

BEAULIEU RIVER: peace and tranquility in the heart of the New Forest. Visit for a couple of hours, pick up a mooring, go alongside at the RSYC's 'Gins Farm' or stay overnight in the Marina. A walk along the river bank to Beaulieu gets you a drink and/or supper at the 'Montague Arms'. A short walk in the opposite direction gets you a drink/snack at the 'Master Builders snug' in Bucklers Hard, where most of Henry VIII's fleet was built.
You may even have time to take in Lord Montague's private car collection at Beaulieu Motor Museum.

YARMOUTH, IOW: charming, pretty village of days gone by - everyone's favourite. Lovely coastal walks to the Needles and across the Island to Freshwater or Tennison Down. Great pubs and restaurants, including 'The George'; spectacular sunsets.

NEWTOWN CREEK (Shalfleet), IOW: this natural, totally unspoilt harbour is a nature reserve, providing peace and tranquility except, of course, for the call of the many birds. Visitors moorings are provided and a run ashore in the dinghy to the local Pub is a must!

LYMINGTON: lots to see; a busy port with ferries to the Isle of Wight, good shopping, good pubs / restaurants. Moor-up against the town quay or in a marina and visit the quaint cobbled High Street with all the amenities that this busy little town has to offer including a market in the High Street!

YOUR CHOICE : All these ports can be reached within a 2 to 4 hour sail from Shamrock Quay. You can also take in Hamble enroute, a great place to party .......
There is just so much good sailing in the Solent and so many great places to visit! The choice is yours!
